mini mobile

I’m buying a house, as seen in the previous post (it’s not actually mine yet, the deed is somewhere unknown, but that’s a whole ‘nother story). Anyway, in this house is a room that will be my art studio. And I want to make a mobile for this room. And I don’t quite know what I want it to be yet, so I decided to make a miniature version to work out some of what I was thinking.

I had some leftover black-coated copper wire from some previous project, and this morning I went out to buy some crimp beads and some sort of disk-like beads for the dangly bits. I didn’t quite get what I wanted, but it was good enough to make a test mobile with.

Two hours later, here’s what I have, in two shots so you can see a bit of movement.:

And there it is. I really needed a distraction today, because my family found out on Wednesday that my eldest sister has colon cancer. Turns out it’s stage 4, so it’s just a question of how long she can fight it for. At the moment, the less I think about it, the better, because constant crying is really not how I want to live, and it’s not like it helps her in any way. So this was a pretty effective distraction, and even better, the final result is a pretty good distraction on its own – it’s fascinating to stare at.
